About
What is WEF?
Westford Education Foundation is an independent non-profit organization that promotes innovative educational initiatives and champions life-long learning. We do this by building a wide community of support, fostering ideas, channeling resources, and funding exceptional learning programs.
What Does WEF Do?
WEF holds two fundraising events each year: the Walk for Education in the Fall and The Big Event in the Spring.
The Walk for Education is a community-building event during which children, their families and people of all ages promote awareness of our goal of excellence in education by walking the 1.5 mile route from the Common to Westford Academy. At the Academy, walk participants are treated to a lively celebration, including snacks, raffle prizes and musical entertainment.
The Big Event Is a glamorous evening out – a dinner dance including a delicious gourmet meal, entertainment by a live band, and a drawing for the winners of the Big Event Raffle. Last year we gave away a cash prize, a plasma TV and a trip to Tuscany!
Where Does the Money Go?
The net proceeds from these events, along with generous donations from local sponsors, fund grants to support innovative projects consistent with the Westford Public School and NVTHS curriculum but beyond the scope of the approved school budgets. All WPS and NVTHS faculty, administrators, parents, students and community members are eligible to apply for WEF grants.
WEF has two grant cycles: Fall and Spring. Since our inception in July 2003. WEF has awarded more than 50 grants totaling over $74,000, benefiting hundreds of educators and directly impacting over 5,000 students.
WEF also champions community educational endeavors including Sunday Hours at the J.V. Fletcher Library, and is a major supporter of the Living Lab initiative at Reed Brook.
